What do the device states online, late and offline mean?

Each device has a status pill that tells you whether its board is talking to the platform right now. It is worked out from the last time a reading arrived from it, and it shows on Home and on the Devices page.

  • Role needed: any role.
  • Where it is available: web.
  1. Sign in (see How do I sign in to my farm?).
  2. Press Devices in the side menu. On a phone, it is in the bar at the bottom of the screen.
  3. The pill sits beside each device’s ID under “📡 Devices”. You also find it in the Devices strip on Home.

The side menu: press Devices (1) to open the Devices page. The device list on the Devices page: the status pill (1) beside the device ID and its role.

State Meaning Time since last reading
🟢 online The device is working and sending up to 10 minutes
🟡 stale Later than expected; the minutes are shown 10 to 30 minutes
🔴 offline Cut off from the platform; the minutes are shown more than 30 minutes
⚪ never reported Registered but has never sent a reading no readings
⛔ suspended Taken out of service for now not counted
  • stale: wait a few minutes, it may be a passing network delay.
  • offline: check the board’s power and Wi-Fi.
  • never reported: make sure the device ID on the page matches the firmware and that the key is right (see Add a device).
  • suspended: resume it from its card if it was not meant to be stopped. See Edit or delete a device.

The device looks online but the reading is old. The state follows the last reading that arrived, so check the last-sync time on Home.

An auto-added device shows “not in latest report”. It means the parent device no longer lists it in its latest report. The device and its history are kept on purpose, since it may just be powered off.
