How do I manage sensors: add, hide, disable and delete?

The Sensors section of the Devices page lists the sensors of one device, and lets you manage their names, order and state.

  • Role needed: Admin or Owner to edit. A Viewer can only see the list.
  • Where it is available: web.
  • You normally do not add sensors by hand: they are added automatically when the Master node reports them. You only rename, hide, disable or delete.
  1. Sign in (see How do I sign in to my farm?).
  2. Press Devices in the side menu. On a phone, it is in the bar at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll to “🌡 Sensors” and pick the device from the list above it.

The side menu: press Devices (1) to open the Devices page. The Sensors section: the device picker (1), + Add sensor (2), the sensor name (3), Hide (4), Disable (5) and Delete (6).

Change the name, unit (such as °C) or order in the sensor’s row and it saves by itself. The friendly name is what appears in Readings and on the charts.

  1. Pick the device from the list first.
  2. Press + Add sensor.
  3. Type the key exactly as the device sends it, such as temp_2. It is required.
  4. Pick the type: Temperature, Humidity, Soil moisture or Generic.
  5. Type a name and unit if you wish, then press Add Sensor.

The add-sensor form: the key (1), the type (2), the name (3), the unit (4) and the Add Sensor button (5).

Option What it does
Hide Hides the sensor from Home only. Readings are still recorded. Show brings it back
Disable Its readings are dropped: nothing is recorded, and alerts, automation and the Advisor do not see it, until you press Enable
Delete Deletes the sensor and all its readings for good. It stays removed even if the device reports it again, until you restore it from Removed items
  • auto-added: the device announced it by itself and nobody typed it in.
  • not in latest report: the node no longer lists it in its latest report. It is kept on purpose, since the node may just be powered off.
  • disabled: you disabled it.

I do not see a sensor in the list. Make sure you picked the right device in the list above the section. If it was deleted, look in Removed items.

A sensor shows no readings. It may be disabled or hidden. Look for the “disabled” badge or a “Show” button.
